What do crocodiles, ancient civilizations, the longest river in the world, and Shine Maritime have in common? They are all things commonly found in South Sudan’s Nile River systems.
Shine Maritime provides inland logistic and warehousing services of dry and liquid bulk commodities, such as grains, cereals, and petroleum products, through the Nile River System, and other South Sudan inland waterways. Our company navigates client goods downstream, upstream on the longest river in the world, the Nile River.
Spanning 6,671 km and shared by ten (10) countries, Shine Maritime is headquartered in Juba, South Sudan. All year round, we operate a fleet of pushers/towboats, boats/barges and third-party affiliates on numerous delivery routes on the White Nile to include the following terminal destinations: Juba, Terakeka, Mangala, Bor, Shambe, Malakal, Renk, and Malakal. Furthermore, the river corridors accessible during the rainy season include: Sobat Corridor, Zeraf River, Bahr el Ghazal River, and Jur River.
Every journey we take on behalf of our clients from Point A to Point B allows our experts to plan, manage, and overcome security, physical, time and handling constraints. Shine Maritime, maneuvers through water hyacinths, a thick growth and matting that restricts movement on the river, especially, narrow waterways. Additionally, we understand that low water levels and shifting sands occur during the dry seasons that restrict movement, so our company diligently mitigates these challenges.

Book With Us
Booking with Shine Maritime is easy and we have standard booking procedures and rates for cargo. However, rates and payment conditions may vary due to if you are a client who has a long-term contract or a walk-in client. As a walk-in client, you should expect to pay in advance and pay applicable market rates, long-term contracts are negotiable.
You may book with us in our offices (Acacia Village / Juba Port), however, an e-mail or a phone call may be the fastest method. When delivering cargo, Shine Maritime has a Service Request Form (SRF) that clearly entails the booking procedures, and comprehensive documents required.
These Documents Include (But Not Restricted To):
- Contractual Agreement between Shine Maritime & Your Organization.
- Quantity of Cargo to be Moved.
- Certificate of Ownership.
- VAT Forms or VAT Exemption Forms.
- Copy of Insurance Documentation.
- Medical Supplies (May Require Authorization Letter from the Ministry of Health).
Fair Rates & Costs
Shine Maritime rates are based on cargo per metric ton or cubic foot, depending on which is greater. Fortunately, for our client’s rates are the same during the wet and dry seasons.
Rates may vary as of trip routes downriver from Juba to Malakal take approximately 7 – 10 days on the Nile River. However, return trips may be more up-river from Malakal to Juba and takes approximately 14 – 20 days on the Nile River.
Regarding, river trips we allow respective organization agency staff to accompany cargo on our boats/barges/boats free of charge, excluding food and beverage, however, arrangements may be made in advance.
We Are Insured
Shine Maritime has insurance to cover its boats, boats/barges, equipment, people and your goods against damage and/or loss due to operations or in the event of the sinking of a boat/barge. Our company also provide additional protection of value-added insurance on all goods in transit.

Shine Maritime’s management is firmly committed to our HSE Policy enabling all work activities to be carried out safely, and with all possible measures taken to remove (or at least reduce) risks to the health, safety and welfare of workers, contractors, authorised visitors, and anyone else who may be affected by our operations. We are committed to ensuring we comply with International Standards in Work Health, Safety and Environment Codes of Practice.
Responsibilities
Management / Will Provide and Maintain as far as Possible:
- A safe working environment.
- Safe systems of work.
- Plant and substances in safe condition.
- Facilities for the welfare of workers.
- Information, instruction, training and supervision that is reasonably necessary to ensure that each worker is safe from injury and risks to health.
- A commitment to consult and co-operate with workers in all matters relating to health and safety in the workplace.
- A commitment to continually improve our performance through effective safety management.
Workers / Each Worker has an Obligation to:
- Comply with safe work practices, with the intent of avoiding injury to themselves and others and damage to plant and equipment.
- Take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and others.
- Wear personal protective equipment and clothing where necessary.
- Comply with any direction given by management for health and safety.
- Not misuse or interfere with anything provided for health and safety.
- Report all accidents and incidents on the job immediately, no matter how trivial.
- Report all known or observed hazards to their supervisor or manager.
Application of this Policy
We seek the co-operation of all workers, customers and other persons. We encourage suggestions for realizing our health and safety objectives to create a safe working environment with a zero-accident rate.
This policy applies to all business operations and functions, including those situations where workers are required to work off-site.
